ラスベガスでは、いつかは行ってみたいと思っていたシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユの「O」のパフォーマンスを見てきた。私のシアター好きがどのくらい周知のものなのかは、知らないけれど、私はどこかに行くときには、時間とお金が許す限り、できるだけ劇場に足を運ぶ。

日本ではついぞ見に行く機会がなく、初鑑賞。この「O」は、特に舞台に水が使われるということで、見る前から期待値は大きかった。ミュージカルなどと違って、基本的にはサーカスなので、言葉での表現はほぼ存在せず、身体性が優位な舞台となっている。

以下、感想。確かに、サーカス自体は目を瞠るような、技の連続だったし、迫力もあった。そして、なにより舞台装置がすごかった。プールが舞台上に出現するそのスケール感は圧巻。ただ、個人的には、やはりストーリー、物語性のある舞台の方が好きなようだ。ミュージカルに取り上げられるような単純明快な物語が好みなのか、それとも、いわゆる芝居、ストレートプレイ的な、多少抽象的だが、物語があるものが好みなのかは、いまだに自分でもわかっていないところがあるけれど、私の中に「物語性」というキーワードが確かに存在することは、身体表現が主な舞台を見ていて、再確認した。
